Lorne Bissoon - July 2018

Lorne Bissoon, 4th Dan – Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Lorne Bissoon, 4th Dan, started training in Trinidad and Tobago in 1993 at St. Mary’s College. His instructor was Sensei Neil Williams and the club was part of the Japan Karate Association/International Shotokan Karate Federation.

While training in Trinidad his rank tests were done by Master Okazaki for all my kyu levels up to brown belt. He moved to Toronto, Canada to pursue his tertiary education. He began training and testing under the guidance of Master Frank Woon-A-Tai many times successfully.

"I have done full-time training with many instructors whom are definitely names and legends we all know such as Sensei Neil Williams, Shihan Dexter Shim, Master Frank Woon-A-Tai, Shihan Maureen and Joseph Woon-A-Tai, Shihan Keith DaCosta and Sensei Jin. From Trinidad to Toronto I have travelled and learnt a lot along the way and still continue to learn. I have done many classes with Master Okazaki, Yaguchi, Koyama, Ochi, Miura and other Shihan amongst the Northern Hemisphere."

Lorne has and continues to compete in all tournaments - provincial, national and international where he has been lucky to continuously medal in various categories under the guidance of the instructors named above. Since 2010, he has medaled many Golds, Silvers and 1 bronze in his karate career. Currently, he is set to compete at the 2018 IKD world Karate Championships in Barbados.

He started training Karate while in high school to pass time and be involved in an extra-curricular activity.

"I made friends with someone who encouraged me to join and I was hooked shortly after for over 26 years."

Besides a karate practitioner and competitor, He is currently in the field of Talent Acquisition where he develops and fosters many relationships.

"I like long walks on the beach (I seriously do lol), hiking, almost anything outdoors really, running, watching Netflix and some of my favourite series and i love trying different ethnic foods to taste the variety of cultures found in food. Oh...and I also have a food blog."

"I have many funny stories but they aren’t so good on paper. Next time you see me, tap me on my shoulder and ask me for one and hopefully you find it hilarious too. "
