Norm Robitza, 4th Dan, is the Instructor of the Mount Allison University Shotokan Karate club. He reopened the defunct MTA JKA in January 2002 when he was a brown belt. Later that year he would be promoted to Shodan by Master Teruyuki Okazaki.
Norm started training in the 80's, when he was a youth, under the instruction of Sensei David Pyke. At the time, like many youth, he was not focused and left karate. He returned in 1999, when his daughter Katilyn wanted to start training.
In February 2011, he resigned from the ISKF along with most of the dojos in NB to follow Master Woon-A-Tai in the International Karate Daigaku. He is the former web designer for the ISKF Canada and he has developed the International IKD website.
Norm has attended several regional and national tournaments as a competitor and judge. He is a "B" Level IKD International Judge and a member of the IKD Kenshusei Program.
Norm's wife and daughters have all trained in the style. His oldest daughter, Katilyn received her shodan in 2003. His wife, Jolene who also assists with the Mount Allison University Karate club, received her Nidan in 2014. Their youngest daughter, Rachel has done some basic training.
Norm is always asked about his last name. Robitza is an extremely rare surname. There are only a handful of Robitza's in Canada, all relatives. His family originated in Austria.
